Say thanks to our school board members!
The administration and staff of the Ridgway Area School District would like to recognize the service of our School Board Members during the month of January.
There is no question that it takes a lot of dedicated individuals to successfully run a school district, including teachers, administrators, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, maintenance staff, secretaries and aides, to name a few. Every year in January, we salute a special group of individuals who help run the schools in our community – the nine elected members of the school board.
School directors are a special breed who devote on average 20 hours a month to the job, make difficult budget decisions, hire staff, select textbooks, review bus schedules, monitor student progress and many other important tasks. And they do all this as unpaid volunteers.
These elected volunteers are your voice in your school district. They are your friends, neighbors, community leaders, parents at your school and engaged senior citizens. They make sure your concerns are heard and the unique challenges, values, culture and circumstances of the community are reflected in how your children are educated.
During January, we ask everyone in the community to take time in some way to thank a school director for the time and effort they put into helping our schools. These individuals see the great value in standing up for public education. Let’s take a moment to stand up for them and give them the encouragement they need to help improve our schools, community and the lives of the children they serve.
