If your child should be absent from school you will receive a call from the school office. The primary purpose of these calls is to establish the whereabouts of the child. In the event of an unusual occurrence the parents would not know that the child is missing until late afternoon, and school officials would assume that the child was home because of illness. Too many things could happen in the meantime. No calls will be made on the second or succeeding days of consecutive absence.
Unless a child has assignments to do, he is expected to leave the building at dismissal time. Children should not be in the halls or loitering in the classroom after school.
No one but a child's parents or an authorized adult may withdraw a child from his classroom to leave the building while school is in session. Parents who must take their children out of school should contact the office before withdrawing them.
Children are not dismissed early from school except in rare cases, and then only with the permission of the principal or a designated person.
All parents must come to the elementary office - students will be called to the office for dismissal.
When children are to be dismissed early for a doctor appointment, or other appropriate reasons, parents are required to send a note to the main office. This procedure insures a safe dismissal and allows children to be supervised at all times.
There is a relationship between good dress habits, good work habits and proper school behavior. Any type of attire or hair color which attracts undue attention to the wearer, and thus causes a disturbance in school, is in bad taste and is not acceptable. Tank tops are not permitted, however, shorts are permitted during the warm weather months of August, September, May and June.
All shorts worn by the students must be of proper length - finger-tip-at least. Students who are not wearing proper attire will be asked to change here at school or a change of clothes may be brought from home.
Due to the student's safety during the elementary school activities - proper footwear must be worn at all times - flip flops, loose fitting sandals, shower type shoes, heels or heelies, etc. are not permitted.
Field trips and excursions are an important part of education. The school will notify you when such trips are planned and ask for signed permission for your child to make the field trip.
The grade level teachers and myself select chaperones to accompany the students on both our class trips and our field trips. These chaperones are chosen from the elementary teaching staff, school support staff, school related personnel, and additionally, if needed, parents from the individual grade level classes, who have requested to be chaperones.
The elementary staff strongly discourages parents and others from following the busses to their destinations on our field trips. These unplanned for and additional persons add to the anxiousness of the day for both the students and the school staff in charge. Any extra persons add to the responsibilities and liabilities of all those involved in the planning and carrying out of the trips.
Occasionally weather conditions will dictate the closing of schools. Announcements of school closings or delayed openings will be made on radio and television.
There will be periodic fire drills throughout the school year.
