The Ridgway Area School District Board of education is committed to providing for students an environment which is free from sexual harassment and impropriety. This commitment is based not only on a legal accountability to comply with nondiscriminatory employment regulations but also on a moral responsibility to protect the welfare of students.
It shall be a violation of this policy for any district employee to harass a student through conduct or communications of a sexual nature. It shall also be a violation of this policy for students to harass other district employees and other students through conduct or communications of a sexual nature.
Any person who alleges sexual harassment by any district employee or student shall complain directly to the building principal, guidance counselor, teacher, or school nurse. The right on confidentiality, both of the complainant and of the accused, will be respected consistent with the district's legal obligations, and with the necessity to investigate allegations of misconduct and to take corrective action when this conduct has occurred.
Any suspected incident of unlawful harassment must be reported to the administration immediately. Snowball throwing is absolutely forbidden during school time. School time is defined as that time which a child leaves home until he arrives home after school. This, of course, includes waiting at a bus stop, on the bus, or walking to and from school.
