Choosing a career is difficult because there are so many factors that need to be taken into consideration. The challenge is to find a career that you will not only find interesting and rewarding, but one that will also capitalize on your strengths and talents. One of the greatest career exploration opportunities made available by the Ridgway School District is the Discover Program. This is a self-leading computer program accessible by all students and their parents at Ridgway. A veritable wealth of information can be obtained concerning careers from this tool. Within it are interest surveys to type the student with compatible career areas, specific career descriptions and related jobs, education needed, and which colleges or tech schools offer it, financial aid opportunities, salaries, employment projections and on and on. I highly recommend its use and invite all parents to come in and explore the possibilities with your student. Special after school arrangements can be made to assist you in doing so by calling the Guidance Office . All information can be printed, stored within the program, or saved to a disk.

Choosing a career is a process; it is not a decision to be made overnight, so begin early in your students' high school life and make changes as needed as maturity, experiences, and interests dictate.
