Tom Butler
comes to Ridgway from
Elkland,
Pennsylvania
in
Tioga
County
where he has been the principal of
Elkland
High School
. Tom has been married to his wife
Kim for seven years. They have three
children, Emma age 6, Anna age 5, and Richie age 3.
Tom started his career in 1992 after graduating from
Penn
State
University
. He substituted for three school
districts until the 1993-1994 school year when he accepted a Social Studies
teaching position with
Northern
Tioga
School District
. Tom coached basketball, baseball,
and soccer and served as the National Honor Society advisor during his teaching
tenure.
In 1998, Tom earned a Master’s degree in counseling
psychology from
Alfred
University
and became a guidance counselor in 2000. He
served as a guidance counselor for four years until becoming principal at
Elkland
Area
High School
in 2004. Tom enrolled in the Ph.D.
program in Educational Leadership at
Penn
State
University
in 2002 and will graduate in December of this year. Tom’s interests are rural
communities and schools. He looks
forward to serving the community and school system of Ridgway.
