What Agencies Can Be Helpful?

Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services
(a division of OVR-Office of Vocational Rehabilitation)

A program of Social Services for adults and children, a rehabilitation program that includes guidance and counseling, physical restoration, vocational training and placement, in-home rehabilitation, teaching for the blind and in-home mobility instruction for the blind. 

 

Cameron County Assistance Office

Can provide aid to families with dependent children, general assistance food stamps, medically needy only and non-money payment medical assistance, healthy beginnings, healthy horizons, new directions, nursing home care, personal care boarding home, domestic care, supplemental security income, waivers program, and energy assistance.

 

Cameron – Elk(CE) MH/MR Program

Can assist graduates by acting as a resource, and help provide information on the types of Mental Health and Retardation supports and services available in the three county area. It also identifies specific contact people that can access those services that may be needed. CE contracts with many agencies to provide Casemanagement (Advocacy), Residential, Supported and Sheltered Employment, Adult Day Treatment, Outpatient Counseling, and Psychiatric Services, among others. CE directly provides Residential and Home Based Waiver Case management, Early Intervention, and CASSP Services.

 

Dickinson Mental Health Center Adult Habilitation Center

Have services and programs available for daily living, socialization, the job club, and the Elkwood Arts program.

 

Dickinson Mental Health Center
Can provide skills and interest assessment, job readiness, individualized job development, on-the-job training, and follow-up services.

 

Dickinson Mental Health Center Case management

The primary functions are outreach, intake, assessment of the individual's strengths and needs, referral to services, accessing and securing services, coordination with other agencies, developing service plans, supportive counseling, advocacy and monitoring to ensure delivery and high quality services.

 

ELCAM Inc.

Can provide vocational evaluation, training, placement, and employment for individuals with vocational disabilities. The company employs individuals without vocational disabilities to provide an integrated work setting in order to carry out the various programs. Referrals are accepted through the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Mental Health and Mental Retardation, and area industries.

 

Elk County Assistance Office

Can provide cash assistance, food stamps, medical assistance, the disability advocacy program, employment and training counseling and referrals, medical transportation, and fuel/energy. New Directions for Employment will help pay for child care, transportation, car repair/purchase, relocation, and course registration.

 

Life and Independence For Today
Center for Independent Living

Can provide information and referral, peer counseling, individual and group advocacy, independent living skills training, accessibility counseling, and a PIAT representative.

 

North Central Pennsylvania
Regional Planning and Development Commission (JTPA)

Has youth specific programs and services that include pre-employment skills, work experience, limited internship, youth development and training, on-the-job training, transition skills, and post-secondary classroom training.

 

Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR)

Can provide vocational evaluation, career counseling, job training and placement. Can provide funds for other agencies to provide job-related services.

 

PATH (Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness)

Can assist adolescents and young adults between the ages of 16 and 25, who have been diagnosed with serious mental illness or serious emotional disturbance and are homeless or at risk of homelessness.  The PATH Liaison will act as a referral source and resource manager to the individual and service providers.  Referrals will be made to the most appropriate and least restrictive housing option and support services that are available based on the individuals' strengths and needs.  The PATH Projects serves Cameron, Clearfield, Elk, Jefferson, McKean, and Potter Counties.

 

Seneca Highlands Area Vocational Technical School

Has programs available for all students in grades ten through twelve, and adult populations, that include training in advanced office practice, auto mechanics, building construction, building trades maintenance, cosmetology, health assistance, heavy equipment maintenance, and metal working occupations, and network information technology.

 

Social Security Administration

Has programs and services available to assist people in applying for social security numbers, replacement cards, retirement, survivors, disability insurance benefits, Medicare, and supplemental security income.
